How To Create A Sub Domain In WordPress Using Cpanel

How To Create A Subdomain In WordPress Using cPanel

You may have seen many subdomains at many websites. Like forum.domainname.com, support.domainname.com and more. But have you ever thought, how to create a subdomain in WordPress? When you grow your business then you may in need to create a subdomain. It may be for support or any forum.

A subdomain can be created for any existing domain at your web host. It may be for a parked domain, any domain other than your main domain. You can also create sub-subdomain. We will talk about it later. Now let me help you with subdomain set up.

How To Set Up A Subdomain For Your Domain?

We have talked about parking a domain, adding an add-on domain and now we are talking about setting up a subdomain. All these things are quite simple and similar to accomplish. Now I am going to guide you how to set up a subdomain? There are some essential steps to follow:-

Step 1 :- Like always first thing is to login into your web host account and then open your cPanel.

Step 2:- Now search for “Domains” section. You may easily find “Subdomains” option. What are you waiting for? Just click to that option and a new window will appear in front of you.

Step 3:- You can see in the screenshot below that one box is there to fill. You have to fill the name of your subdomain in that box. The prefix you use for your existing domain will be filled in that space. There is a dot between the blank box and the name of your domain.

I have added “support” in the blank space and the subdomain with the name “support.blogginglove.com” will be created. Don’t you worry about “Document Root” option? It will be filled automatically when you click at “create” after filling the name of your subdomain.

As you can see in the example taken above, “public_html/support” has filled automatically when I created a subdomain “supportblogginglove.com“. So you don’t need to fill anything in that blank box. You should concentrate on the name of your subdomain.

Step 4:- I know you are eagerly waiting to create a subdomain. The final thing is to click on the option “create”. Let me make it clear that as I have explained above about “Document Root”, it will not be filled until you click on “create” button. After that, you will be taken to a new page and a message will be shown to you, stated that you have successfully created a subdomain with the name “example.yourdomain.com”.

Step 5:- If you want to check your subdomain then you can click on “go back” option and you will be redirected to the previous page. In the last section of the page, you can see all the subdomains you have created before. Your new subdomain will also be included in that list.

Was That Hard To Create A Subdomain?

What do you think? Did you face any problem? Do you want to create a subdomain for your current domain? You can start a forum if you have more traffic to your blog. I have come across many blogs which have any amazing subdomains and they are doing well.

After going through this post I am sure, you will not need to ask how to create a subdomain for WordPress? Though I have explained the process in simple steps, but still if you face any problem then I am here to help you all.

      Welcome to my blog.:)

I am glad to hear that, you found something informative here. There are millions of blogs which use subdomains. Like you customer, I have came across many bloggers who are willing to start a shopping cart for which a subdomain is needed.

Whenever we visit any subdomain then we don’t even have a look at that. The only thing is subdomains are just like the main domain. Newbies get confused in between them. I hope they can get the better idea from here.

Thanks a lot for taking time to visit here.

Great tutorial, Ravi, and will definitely be telling my friends about it.

My membership is in a different folder because I wanted it on the carol amato domain, without subdomain involved.

cPanel can appear overwhelming at first, but if looked at in a logical manner, you can find anything you want to do inside there.

Thanks again and Have a great weekend.

    1. Hi Carol,

It’s the matter of choice that people add a subdomain to a different folder of in the main directory. But most of the people prefer to add it in a separate folder. It makes easy to do any change with that subdomain.

Yes, cPanel is an amazing tool to use. For WordPress, it is the best thing. You can do any change you want.

      Thanks for stopping by.

      Have an amazing week ahead.
